October 28, 2024 - A Hill Country College Preparatory High School English teacher received an Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award from Humanities Texas on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the high school. Texas Senator Donna Campbell presented Jennifer Fey with the award which includes a $5,000 cash prize and an additional $1,000 for the campus to purchase instructional materials.
Fey is one of 15 recipients of the 2024 Humanities Texas Outstanding Teaching Award. More than 700 teachers from across the state were nominated.
“What Jennifer Fey does in a classroom with students is magical,” says Julie Wiley, principal of HCCPHS. “She fully immerses them in the literature and encourages them to connect themes and ideas to their real world. As a lifelong learner, she regularly seeks out professional development opportunities to hone her craft and shares her expertise with teachers across the district and beyond. She is highly sought after as a professional development facilitator as well.”
In her 12th year as an educator, Fey, who teaches English I and English II in a cross-curricular classroom with a social studies teacher, has received several awards including being named the Comal ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2022 and the KENS 5 Excel Award winner in 2023.
“I am astounded that I was selected for this award and appreciate all the people who help me be successful in the classroom each day,” says Fey. “I like that humanities as a subject receives these honors, it demonstrates the value that the humanities still plays in our society.”
Humanities Texas is the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Its mission is to advance education through programs that improve the quality of classroom teaching, support libraries and museums and create opportunities for lifelong learning for all Texans.
“Humanities Texas is pleased to recognize the achievements of Jenifer Fey and Hill Country College Preparatory High School,” says Humanities Texas Executive Director Eric Lupfer. “Fey inspires and motivates her students to succeed in the classroom and beyond.”
